The essentials of playing Crazy Eights

Begin with the basic rule, then follow the result of your action. Empty your hand by matching the active suit or the top card’s rank. Eights let you choose the next suit. The game area remains available above the explanation. Each player starts with five cards from a standard 52-card deck. The starting discard is not an eight.

Two-player free play with a local computer opponent. No draw-two stacking or reverse cards. A refreshed page starts a new round.

Build familiarity through play

Take a moment to check the current turn. After an eight, match the called suit or play another eight. The eight’s printed suit is not the active suit.

Your objective

A careful first move helps you understand the round. Empty your hand by matching the active suit or the top card’s rank. Eights let you choose the next suit.

How a round unfolds

  1. Each player starts with five cards from a standard 52-card deck. The starting discard is not an eight.
  2. Play one matching card. An eight is always playable; choose its suit using the suit selector before tapping the card.
  3. After an eight, match the called suit or play another eight. The eight’s printed suit is not the active suit.
  4. Draw one card at a time when needed. Drawing does not end your turn; keep drawing or play a legal card.
  5. The stock is not recycled. With no stock and no legal card, pass. Two consecutive passes end the round in a draw.
  6. The first empty hand wins. New round deals again.

Input guidance

Take a moment to check the current turn. Tap a playable card. Set the suit selector before playing an eight. Draw and Pass have separate buttons. Start a new round when you are ready to try again.

Try this example

Read the position before choosing your next action. If 5♣ is on top, you can play another club, another five, or any eight. Calling hearts with an eight makes hearts the active suit.

A common point of confusion

A careful first move helps you understand the round. Do not assume that every eight keeps its printed suit. The called suit is shown beside the discard pile. The game area remains available above the explanation.
