Shikaku: a guide for your next round

Start Shikaku by looking at the playing area and its controls. Cover the board with non-overlapping rectangles, each containing one clue equal to its area. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Look at what changes after your first action.

Solve ten 5×5 rectangle puzzles. Each clue belongs to exactly one rectangle of the stated area.

Something to practise

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Refer to the controls when needed.

What you need to achieve

Cover the board with non-overlapping rectangles, each containing one clue equal to its area. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Choose a rectangle’s opposite corners.
  2. It must contain one clue and have the matching area.
  3. Click an existing rectangle to remove it.
  4. Cover every square to finish.

Making selections and moves

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Check any mode label before starting.

A useful example

A clue 6 may occupy a 2×3 rectangle when other clues allow it. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Check the stated objective.

Pay attention to this rule

No rectangle may contain two clues or overlap another. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
